A kit of hardware parts that can be used to turn plastic cans into a pannier. In this option we included the plastic cans. This is not a finished pannier. The cans are shipped already cut but this is still DIY, just a few steps less. This is for making one pannier, for one side.
The plastic cans are upcycled, they have been used once, for food industry concentrates. Capacity 20l. Scroll down and check the “Description” dropdown for more info on the plastic cans. Contact us for different capacities and colors.
Sold for specific rack tube diameters to provide a tight fit. Measure yours. Most common is 10 mm, in case you don’t have a rack yet.

Parts kit net weight 367 g, plastic can net weight 1300 g. These are particularly heavy duty cans with thick walls, other types of cans could weigh much less.

Plastic can:
Outer Dimensions: 22 x 28 x 43 cm. Capacity 20 liters (5,3 gal). Includes bottom part and lid already cut. Has been used once, for food industry concentrates. Comes fairly clean. Glue from under the label still present. It is particularly heavy duty, with rigid, thick walls. The plastic can weighs 1300g without the parts kit. As a reference, thinner walled plastic cans with the same capacity could weigh around 850g.
These are upcycled plastic cans. We do not have contact with the manufacturer, we do not have control over material composition. These are all HDPE, but additives can vary, and that can affect resistance to UV. Getting these is, as if you went to a recycling site and picked up a pair of cans there, but in this case we did that step for you. Your expectations should be the same.
What you get with this option is not a completely finished pannier. The parts will be shipped in their usual packaging. The holes for the straps will be drilled. The holes for the hooks and for the quick release will not be drilled, as the position of those depends on your bicycle.
Cannier Set package contents:
Top strap – High-density, UV-resistant textile laser cut for precise spacings.
Side straps – A thinner version of the top strap for better flexibility, also laser cut, and with sewed loops for simultaneous one-move fastening with your thumbs.
Strap adjusters – Oversize, high load resistance YKK plastic adjusters.
Hooks – Galvanized steel with shock absorbing and UV-resistant plastic coating to protect your rack.
Clamp – Galvanized steel back plate with plastic inserts to protect your rack.
One eyed rabbit – Laser cut from stainless steel sheets. The smile on the rabbit lets you rotate it, so it can be mounted on rack tubes with different angles.
Quick release – We ordered custom quick releases to fit the use case. They have specific dimensions for a comfortable use with Canniers. They come fitted with a Shore80 rated elastomer for effortless closing and opening.
Screws, nuts and washers – All made of A2 grade stainless steel.
